1999 Closing Dinner
The Access Wall Street Spring 1999 Program Closing Dinner was held in Universal City Walk at Camacho's Cantina. The Closing Dinner recognized the contributions and efforts of 13 very talented young adults. Joining the Access Wall Street participants were representatives from Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette ("DLJ") our sponspor, El Nido Family Centers and Directors from Access Wall Street.
Canard Barnes, co-founder and director of Access Wall Street, opened the celebration. Mr. Barnes, a stock broker from Merrill Lynch, recounted the remarkable progress and accomplishments of these young adults. Every Wednesday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm the students participated in a discussion, stock market activity, math exercise and finished the session by making transactions in their stock portfolios.
Our next speaker was Alexx Tobeck, the tireless and truly dedicated Volunteer Coordinator from El Nido Family Services. Alexx thanked DLJ for all of its support and presented the firm a plaque signed with comments by all the Access Wall Street students. Canard Barnes, were also presented a "Thank You Plaques" by Cynthia, a Access Wall Street participant. Randy Hirt, co-founder and director of Access Wall Street was also recognized by Luis and Sandra, two other Access Wall Street students.
This next part of the prograam recognized the Access Wall Street interns, Cynthia, Veronica and Edwin. As part of the Access Wall Street program, all students are offered the opportunity to interview for internship positions at DLJ. This part of the program is run by Chris Park, a DLJ employee and active and contributing member of the Access Wall Street Board. Chris presented each intern with a check for $100 and a certificate of completion. On display were bound copies of the work the interns did during their internships.
The Outstanding Student Project awards were present by Eloisa Romo and Kelly Williams, internship volunteers at DLJ. The Student Project is an integral part of the Access Wall Street program and the skill development of the particpants. Each group chooses a company and researches the prospects, past performances.
